Just a quick thank you to the team that helped to make the Burns Supper at the Woodman such an enjoyable night. The Woodman team, Caroline, Luke and the girls, worked very hard for us, the hall looked lovely (dare one say romantic?), with many tables bringing along their own candles to brighten up the room. Tartan tablecloths and napkins, Burns Menus (thanks to JuicyDesigns), and Saltire bunting everywhere set the scene for some truly unusual Scottish accents as Burns’ poetry was read, or sung – many thanks to our performers. The meal was delicious, many said (me included) it was the best Burns Supper they had tasted – ever. Posey Nancy (B) looked amazing with her flame red hair. Our piper, Sjoerd, added great tone to the evening, not only with his pipes but also singing and giving us the Immortal Memory. Karen English gave us a feisty female reply (in rhyming poetry) to Neil’s Address to the Lassies. Bill’s “Ode to a Fart” was truly memorable – it had us all in stitches!  Prizes were awarded by Claire and Herbie for ‘best dressed’ of both sexes, while Jayne and B were deserved winners of the prize for the ‘knobbliest knees’.  The Scottish dancing after the meal was enthusiastic, if a touch chaotic, but seemed to be enjoyed by those who took part. All in all, it was an enjoyable gathering and seemed a good thing to be doing on a damp and uninspiring Saturday in late January! Best wishes to the three clan members who couldn’t make the Supper due to illness, we hope you get better soon. And apologies to anyone I have missed – blame it on last night’s ‘wee drams’. Neil
